General

Shure’s SM 58 dynamic vocal microphone was designed for professional use. No wonder it’s such a good asset on stage and in the studio! High-grade components, a wide frequency range and a rugged housing make this mic a real all-rounder, so it shouldn’t come as a surprise that it’s one of the most popular microphone models ever made. When they released the SM58, Shure truly set a new standard for the world of professional audio.

Shure SM58: A spherical filter

The SM 58 is equipped with an effective, built-in spherical filter that reduces breath and wind noise. The microphone’s exceptionally sturdy construction ensures a long life, and makes it suitable for the rental sector too. An integrated shock mount (an anti-shock feature for microphones) ensures that you won’t have to worry about the SM58’s delicate interior components. When it comes to vocals and speech, this Shure microphone is basically the industry standard.

A version without an on/off switch

The main difference between the regular SM58 and the SM58SE is an on/off switch. Whether or not you’ll need that switch is entirely up to you, and depends on how you’re planning to use the microphone. An on/off switch puts performing artists in control of their own sound while they’re on stage, but also has its drawbacks. Even artists are only human, after all, and might be prone to fiddling with their mic, especially if they are nervous. Accidentally flipping the switch at the wrong moment will suddenly cut off the sound. For that reason, Shure offers two versions of their classic SM 58 microphone. Take your pick!
